Welcome to Tribeca Organization

Welcome to Tribeca. As anyone who has experienced even the most fleeting of visits to this special neighborhood knows, Tribeca is a place that never ceases to surprise. Its historic streets are home to an extraordinary array of culinary, architectural, and cultural delights — some world famous, but many others little-known secrets waiting to be discovered: even if you think you know it, there’s always something unexpected around the corner. This new website is designed to help you explore and take advantage of all these extraordinary resources, from the latest eatery or gallery, to long-established food market or dog walking service.

Tribeca Friends and Neighbors

It’s back! The Tribeca Film Festival has returned and part of it is here at Tribeca Performing Arts Center at BMCC! And now we interrupt our regularly scheduled newsletter to bring you commentary direct from the front lines as reported by Tribeca’s own ace Marketing Director, Eli Abdallah:

Thank You David,

What an exciting day!

The Tribeca Film Festival had its press conference earlier today which started a little after 10AM and finished promptly at 11AM.  TFF Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal welcomed everyone.  She noted that this year marks the 7th Anniversary of the Film Festival.  The press conference also included NY Governor David Patterson and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg among others.

We took a sneak peek at some of the works to be featured such as Pray the Devil Back to Hell which is about a group of women who rise up to peace in Liberia and help bring to power the country's first female head of state.  We also took a sneak peek at War Child where Hip-hop star Emmanuel Jal returns to Sudan where he served as a child soldier. We also caught a glimps at Bart Got A Room a comedy starring William H. Macy.

NY Governer David Patterson announced that he will sign legislation expanding tax credit for New York State Film Productions.  Go David!

Noteable jurors were announced such as Whoopie Goldberg, Matthew Modine, Oliver Platt, David Bowie and Molly Shannon.

TFF By The Numbers: I learned that there are 2,700 volunteers, 121 feature films, 79 short films, 54 world premiere films from 41 different countries, 191 directors are in town for this festival, this year will feature a restored version of 2001 A Space Odyssey, Mayor Bloomberg talked about his "future career" in acting due to his performance recently in 30 Rock.

Back to You, David.

This year Tribeca PAC welcomes applications for our Artists in Residence Program?  All performing artists, writers, directors, choreographers, composers, and multi-media artists are encouraged to apply.   Tribeca PAC’s 2008 – 2009 Artist in Residence program provides each artist with invaluable rehearsal space for a full year to create a new work.  Do you wonder if you are eligible? We are looking for both emerging artists and established artists who are changing direction in the disciplines mentioned above.   The application process is very simple:  Just go to our webpage www.tribecapac.org and click Artists in Residence and then click Guidelines for Application.  We are accepting applications now through May 16.  Please forward this information to everyone you feel should be part of this program.

“The World’s Longest Day is a Day for the World”

Lower Manhattan

The Downtown Green Fair aims to make Lower Manhattan the World’s Capitol of GREEN.  Why?  Because New York leads the world.  And because GREEN makes good sense AND good ¢.

On Saturday, June 21, 2008 – The Summer Solstice – the Downtown Green Fair will put children, families, pets, businesses and downtown leaders under one big, environmentally friendly roof.  Our city has no lasting future unless it is GREEN.  That’s true for our families, our homes, our schools, businesses and communities.

Much is already being done, and it deserves to be recognized.  But so much more remains to be done.  By coming together, we can set the standard for our community, our city, and more.

The Downtown Green Fair, building on the 2006 success of the Downtown Pets Street Fair, is a street fair that occupies Warren Street west of West Street.  Its components incorporate the following elements and interest groups:

a.      Green Strategies.  Advocates will provide educational and advocacy materials to motivate green lifestyles and strategies.  Battery Park City Authority and PLANNYC have established guidelines, and in some cases, put policies in place.

b.      Green Vendors.  The consumer and commercial market for green products is growing.  Vendors will display their wares and educate the public on planet-saving and cost-saving innovations.

c.      Downtown Schools.  The downtown has shown itself, through contracting for the new “green” school, to be a leader in the city.  But what about the other schools?  What are the standards for green operations, and how are they being supported in the curriculum?

d.      Animals.  We are lonely beings without the companionship of creatures.  There are downtown organizations devoted to rescue and to good pet care.  “Farm on the MOOVE” will set up its petting zoo.

e.      Growing Things.  New York has joined the UN commitment to plant trees – one million in the city.  Strategies for city streets, downtown parks and your home.

f.       Clowns, environmentally friendly food, music, children and family-friendly attractions.

g.      Political leaders, celebrity endorsement . . . TBD.

h.      Downtown GREEN Manifesto.  Sign on with your personal or corporate pledge to Go GREEN.

i.         Shop GREEN Downtown.  Patronize green merchants who share your values and vision.
